National Academy of Public Administration and National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Release Final Report on the National Nuclear Security Administration

Report Follows Multi-Year Evaluation; Includes 16 Recommendations for Continued Progress
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Academy of Public Administration, in partnership with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, today released Governance and Management of the Nuclear Security Enterprise, a final report that follows a four-and-a-half-year assessment of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
“After a comprehensive evaluation, the Panel has found that governance and management of NNSA has improved,” said Panel Co-Chair Jonathan D. Breul, an Academy Fellow and a former senior official with the U.S Office of Management and Budget. “We have observed improved levels of trust, mission focus, governance, and performance across the organization. However, these improvements are fragile and NNSA must do more to ensure that progress continues on a positive trajectory. We encourage NNSA leadership to implement the Panel’s recommendations, which will serve to strengthen the agency for the critical work that it does.”
